In many cases there is a requirement for log splitters before the material is prepared for pelleting

The same basic pellet mills can also produce wood/straw and other bio mass pellets albeit with different pellet die geometry. In many cases there is a requirement for log splitters, log shredders, driers, before the material is prepared for pelleting. However biomass pelleting plants will be more commercially viable if dry materials can be used. For example, kiln dried or seasoned wood sawdust and/or shavings are ideal for pellet making. If considering straw pelleting (wheat, miscanthus, oil seed rape etc) these materials dry naturally to acceptable moisture levels ready for pelleting without the need for costly drying equipment and running costs. Our site
www.ffspelletmills.com is specifically related to bio mass pelleting .

Animal Feed pellets will normally consists from variety of cereals

Farm Feed Systems Pelleting plants can be tailored to suit animal feed or bio-mass pellet production. However different items of machinery are required .

Animal Feed pellets will normally consists from variety of cereals (grain). It is necessary to mill the cereals in the proportions required before pelleting. Farm Feed Systems offer milling and mixing via our unique proportioner hammer mill. This mill can take up to 6 different ingredients (cereals) and simultaneously mill and mix in the correct proportions. Mixed meal is then transferred to a pellet mill for conversion into pellets. The whole operation can be automated in order to minimise labour input. Please view our animal feed web site www.farmfeedsystems.co.uk .

Systems can demonstrate capital cost of machinery

Our mill, mix and pelleting plants are designed to give farmers the opportunity to dramatically reduce their feed bills by manufacturing themselves. There are many advantages as follows:

1. Over £100 per ton can be saved on the cost of purchased pellet feed

2. If growing cereals, additional savings can be made.

3. Every batch manufactured can be designed to meet maximum feed conversion ratio’s

4. It is known exactly what is in the formula.

5. It is known that ingredients are fresh

6. Plants can be supplied without hourly outputs from 100ks – 4000kgs and will run on an automatic basis for up to 22 hours per day.

In most cases, Farm Feed Systems can demonstrate capital cost of machinery can be recovered in less than 12 months. At a time when Farmers are looking to find serious cost reductions, home milling and mixing/pellet production could be the obvious answer. All of our plants are manufactured in our Gloucestershire factory or by local sub-contractors. This enables us to provide a comprehensive service and breakdown facility that would be difficult with imported equipment.

Method of manufacturing is highly efficient

Various sourced figures show that demand in the UK for combustible pellets is currently greatly exceeding supply .
Wood and straw fuel pellets have long been seen as a “green” alternative to fossil fuel energy sources. At the turn of the century the UK market for this alternative fuel was restricted to those who wanted friendly energy alternatives regardless of cost. However, with the recent and constant rise in fossil fuel costs, and a greener outlook, demand for this alternative fuel has increased dramatically .
Statistics indicate that, in each of the last two years, wood fuel pellet usage has been increasing at an annual rate of 200% because wood pellets are now competing favourably on price, as well as offering neutral carbon emissions .
There are well-documented examples of large scale commercial facilities with capacities of 30,000 tonnes of wood pellets per year. There are currently 3 in the UK with plans to build more. Although this method of manufacturing is highly efficient, many of the environmental advantages are lost through the need to collect and then distribute 30,000 tonnes of materials over a very large area. Transport for collection and delivery offsets the ‘green’ advantage .
